Degree Audits/Plans

What is a degree audit?

  • A degree audit is a degree plan.
  • It is an official University document.
  • It lists all the course and requirements you have completed and those you still need to complete in order to graduate.
  • When should I get a degree audit?

You should request a degree audit once you have completed your College of Information core requirements for either the BS in Information Science for the Department of Library and Information Sciences or the BAAS in Applied Technology and Performance Improvement for the department of Learning Technology.

How do I request a degree audit?

    1. Obtain copies of your transcripts:

  • Print a copy of your unofficial UNT transcript through MyUNT.
  • Order copies of any transfer transcripts from the Registrar’s Office located on the first floor of the Eagle Student Services Center.
  • 2. Contact the department for your major and schedule an appointment with your academic counselor. Appointments can be either in person or conducted in a phone advising session. See Contact Us section for information.

    3. During your appointment you will request your audit.

    4. You must bring or email your transcripts (see #1) as well as catalog descriptions of all courses completed at other institutions. Note: the descriptions are especially important if you have transfer classes from other four year universities that you want to count toward your major requirements.

    5. The academic counselor will complete a degree audit request form. If you are declaring a minor or double major, you may do so at the appointment. If you have already declared a minor or double major, be sure to notify the faculty advisor so that the additional requirements will be listed on your audit.

    6. A copy of your degree audit will be given to you at the end of the appointment if meeting face to face or emailed to you if a phone advising session was conducted. Check MyUNT to ensure that your email address is correct.

    Important Notes about Audits

  • Your degree audit can take up to two to four weeks to be processed and emailed to you in a PDF file format if additional processing is needed to substantiate transfer courses.
  • A copy of your official audit will also be sent to your faculty advisor.
  • It is your responsibility to update each semester’s progress on your copy of the audit. If you would like a new or updated copy of your audit, please Contact Us.
  • If you feel you need assistance understanding your audit, please schedule an appointment with your faculty advisor or with an academic advisor in our office.
  • How to Read Your Audit – A Simplified Guide
  • All requirements listed with an “IN PROGRESS” or “NO” in the upper left hand corner of the requirement are requirements you are responsible for completing. The “NEEDS” and “SELECT FROM” statements display the hours and/or grade point average and/or courses you have remaining to complete this requirement.
  • Requirements listed with an “OK” in the upper left hand corner of the requirement have been completed.
  • The requirement titled “UNIVERSITY REQUIREMENTS FOR DEGREE -- ADVANCED HRS” displays the minimum number of required advanced hours (3000/4000 level courses) for your degree. The “HOURS ADDED” statement indicates the number of advanced hours you have completed (earned a passing grade for) to date. The “IP HOURS:” are the advanced hours you are currently registered for. If the “NEEDS” hours statement is displayed for this requirement that indicates the number of advanced hours you need to graduate (in addition to any advanced hours you may already be enrolled in).
  • Remember to read the audit carefully.
  • Review all Grade Point Average requirements listed on the audit.
  • Any changes in the requirements for your major must be approved in writing by your faculty or academic advisor.
